Northwest Louisiana boasts an advanced, competitive manufacturing industry, in part due to the logistical advantages its unique location offers. Low land costs, multimodal transportation, access to several interstate routes and a regional airport active in international trade and commerce all offer companies a variety of advantages.

A vibrant industrial park adjacent to Shreveport Regional Airport and development-ready sites with reasonable prices such as those located at the Port of Caddo-Bossier attract new companies to the area, allowing for the continual development of new investment opportunities across the region. Ideally situated along the Red River, the Port provides businesses here a link to domestic and international markets via the Mississippi River, the nation’s largest river system, and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Major manufacturing investments in the region include:

Within the Bossier-Shreveport community, there is local representation of nearly all branches of service — Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, active duty Air Force and Air Force Reserve. With Bossier City being selected as home to a military airfield in the 1930s, Barksdale Air Force Base has grown into a major source of revenue and employment for the region. Barksdale Air Force Base is the largest employer in the Bossier-Shreveport metropolitan statistical area, as well as the largest single-site employer in Louisiana. Because the area endlessly supports military, over 40,000 military retirees have made Bossier-Shreveport their home.
